Before we start going any further, let’s start off by talking about what Purim is. Purim is the festival remembering Esther’s heroism. If you don’t know the story well here’s the sum of it. The king of Persia dismissed his wife and went on to find a new one. He threw a big beauty contest in which a Jewish orphan young woman named Hadassah (or Esther) won and became queen. But a evil prince named Haman makes an evil plan to kill off Esther’s people (the Jews); which at the end, backfires due to Esther exposing him. This saves all the Jewish people living in Persia. But when you look deeper into the story, you’ll find something interesting. The elements of Esther's book match the elements of the book of Revelation; let’s look.
Let's just start off by looking at the Character list of the book of Esther. We have a King, a Wife, Mordecai, and Haman. In the book of Revelation we see that same portrayals being Jesus Christ (The King), The Church (Esther "the wife"), The Jewish people (Mordecai), and the Antichrist (Haman). Now let's look at some of the story line of both books as well. Let's start with Mordecai. He helped raise his cousin Esther. Later, he gets oppressed by Haman for not bowing to him and he, and his people, got their lives threatened to be exterminated. Later he gets ranked in a higher position wearing blue and white. Mordecai is the picture of Israel where Jesus came from. In Revelation the Jews will be persecuted by the antichrist for not accepting his rule, and we see this even more due to Mordecai wearing the same colors as the Israeli flag.
Now let's take a closer look at Esther. Her real name Hadassah in Hebrew actually means "Bride". She later married the King and aided in the exposing of Haman and his plans to kill all the Jews. Esther is a picture of the Church. In Revelation, the Church is the bride of the King of Kings. Also, in Revelation 19 it says that when Christ comes back on a horse that all His hosts (including the Bride) will be with Him just like the bride (Esther) was there to expose Haman. Looking at the King now. He is the one that does the ruling when Haman is exposed and is husband to the bride. In Revelation, the king is Jesus. He has his bride (the Church) and is the one on the horse in Revelation 19.
Now, to Haman. In the book of Esther, everyone has to bow before Haman due to his position in power. But one day, he is dishonored when Mordecai won’t bow, because of this, Haman goes after the Jews to annihilate them all. But his plan gets exposed by Esther to the King and the King commands his death. Interestingly Haman also had 10 sons. In Revelation, all the nations will bow before the antichrist, he will go after the Jews when they will not accept his reign and persecute them. then when it comes to destroy them all, Jesus comes back and exposes the plans of the Antichrist and the 10 nations that will follow him. Now when we read the book of Esther we can read it in a new light! Happy Purim.
