What God Always Wanted

This week, Jews all over the world celebrate a festival for 7 days called Sukkot (Tabernacles) which commemorates the 40 years in the wilderness. At this time, they would also build booths, or sukkahs, to live in for 7 days (pictureds on the right). But the most personal part would be eating the meals at the table inside the sukkah. But what if I told you that this celebration shows what God has always wanted? Does He want you to make a booth? Well no; but it’s far deeper than it seems; so let’s take a look.

In Leviticus 23:42 it says "For seven days you must live outside in little shelters".

So here we start to see the thing God wants. Remember when you were a kid and there was that one toy, that once you set your eyes on, you were going to do everything in your power to get? That’s how God was when sin ruined the one thing He had but had to put aside for a while. But there were ways in which He would communicate to His people whic He loved to alays do. In the Bible (Old and New Testaments) we se this communication in Exodus 6:7, Leviticus 26:12, Jeremiah 7:23, 11:4, 24:7, 30:22, 31:33, Ezekiel 4:11, 11:20, 36:28, 37:23 & 27, Hosea 2:23, Zechariah 8:8, 13:9, 2nd Corinthians 6:16, Hebrews 8:10, and Revelation 21:1-3 you see a single thread message running through all these verses “I will be your God, you will be My people”.

But back to loooking a the booths. One thing many people may not not know is that the booths have a meanig behind them. Jews build these sukkahs to remind themselves of God’s goodness in the desert; because of God’s relationship with His people. God shows us what He has always wanted through the booth; He has always wanted relationship. Interestingly enough, Jews even put a diner table with chairs in the sukkah to eat inside of it. The Jews eating inside of the booth would symbolize them sharing the most intimate part of their lives with God; also known as relationship. They want God to live with them in harmony.

There is also a prophetic side to this festival. As last stated, each Jewish feast was made by God to foreshadow a future event. This one foreshadows God, once again, living amongst humanity as back in the Garden of Eden. (Revelation 21:3). Also, in Zechariah 14:16 it says that this feast will be celebrated when Jesus reigns over all the Earth; and the best part is, He will have what He has always wanted; to live amongst His people and be their God.But you don’t have to wait until then! You can begin your relationship with Jesus right here; right now. Invite Him to be your Savior and Lord! You will never regret! I guarantee it!
