Lions are known as the king of their cat species. They are also seen in some countries as being royal. But what does the Bible say about them and Bible prophecy? Well let’s take a closer look. First we have to see who these lions are.
The first lion we will be talking about is the devil. 1st Peter 5 vs. 8 depicts him saying "your great enemy, the devil, prowls around as a roaring lion looking for someone to devour". Now let's take a closer look. Notice that Peter describes the devil AS a roaring lion. He then details that this lion “prowls around”. In the Greek, the word prowl is “περιπατεῖ” (peripatei) meaning to walk around. But why “AS” a lion? Peter knew that ever since the beginning of time, the devil has always tried to make, and be, a fake copy of what God is. So if the devil is as a lion; who is “THE” lion?
Jesus Christ is “THE” true lion. Revelation 5 vs. 5 says "But one of the twenty four elders said to me "Stop weeping, Look the Lion of Judah , the heir to David's throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open up the scroll and its seven seals". Why the Lion of Judah? Judah was one of the 12 brothers back in the book of Genesis who then becomes one of the 12 tribes. His father, Jacob (later Israel), before passing away prophesied to each of his 12 children. When he got to Judah he described him as a lion. So the emblem of Judah, even the city of Jerusalem today, is the lion. Jesus comes from this tribe as well. But later we are going to go back to the moment of Jacob’s prophecy for a special reason.
So now we have got to the point of the battle between the two lions. it is depicted in Revelation 19 vs. 11-21. this battle is called the battle of Armageddon. This battle will take place in Israel on the location called “Megiddo” (photo below). Jesus, after the 7 years of Tribulation, will come back for the second time with His saints and the angels behind Him. He will open his mouth and, with His words, crush the armies and the fake lion that are trying to come up against Him and His army.
But, to end, let's take a look aback at Genesis 49 vs. 10. it says "The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from His descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor". The Scepter is the rod a king would use. Jacob is saying that it would not depart from Judah, where Jerusalem is, until the one whom it is intended for (Jesus) comes and will take it. After the Battle of Armageddon, Jesus will step foot on the Mount of Olives and it will split wide making a walkway for a King. Then, He will sit in Jerusalem and from there will reign the whole world, just like Jacob prophesied thousands of years ago! The real Lion of Judah wins at the end! Hallelujah!
