Your Story Matters: My Testimony

I am an almost 23 year old, college student, music loving, Jesus Christ following young man. But while I am attending Vanguard University, that’s my school, I often hear the phrase “Your Story Matters” by many professors and friends. Well; this is a little bit of my story.

I was born in a small city called Culver City, CA; it’s between Santa Monica and West LA. I also lived there for about 5 years. While In Preschool, I would wander off to the playground in front, by myself, and sit on a slide and look up at the clouds until a teacher would come and get me. But those times slipped away when we moved to Downtown Long Beach. Being the only child, for the moment, was a whirlwind until I was able to meet and hold my baby sister at the age of 6. My “bag of titles” was enlarged from son, cousin, grandchild, nephew, to now brother! So from there on out it was my job to take care of my house chores, when my parents were out, and to take care of my sister.

I don’t remember my exact age when I accepted Christ; but I remember I was at one of my Church’s youth services and the teaching was on the Armor of God. I went up with one of my friends and accepted Christ that night. Many ask how I was able to stay at church after almost 23 years; even when the stats say that many high schoolers leave after graduating. I would answer that I made a decision that I fully understood that I had to make on and for my own. My Parents or no one else could’ve made it for me; it was all me and I was all in.

High School was the point where I believe God started to shape and mold me even more. It happened even more at the end of sophomore year. I fractured my right knee and had to have an arthroscopic surgery. But the worst part was after; for not being able to move my leg, I ended up with 3 blood clots and the biggest was around my hip. So this was the beginning of “God’s Operating Table” for me. Many of my friends left me due this injury but now I see that it was God sweeping and cleaning. A year later I was off the medication for the clots and able to start walking again; when God gives you a limp it’s for you to rely on him and remember what He has done. God healed and he continues to heal today; even while you are reading this; He can heal all you need to do is ask.

High school graduation came; class of ‘13. I graduated on time and walked with everyone else. But then college bouncing took place for 2 years between LBCC and Cypress. Then Vanguard walked in and thank God that it did lol. As of right now I am waiting on God to unveil his plans for me here at school. I am meeting new friends all the time, and sitting under wisdom. God has been good; and He will always be good. So for now this is my testimony; and who knows I may do a life update soon. But for now; this is a little about myself.
